In 2011, she made it her New Year’s Resolution to wash her face every night before bed. In high school and college she had been fortunate enough to have clear, glowing skin, but as she neared her 30s, she began to realize that because it had come “easy” to her, she had for far too long taken her youthful skin for granted, and not treated it like she should have. As she began to understand more about skin care, and as she experienced the benefits that came with learning how to take care of her own skin care, she wanted to help others in the same way.
The one thing that she was most opposed to when treating her own skin and wrinkles was looking “fake”. As she expressed this to friends and colleagues, she was encouraged that this was in addition to her background in nursing was exactly why she would be good at treating others.
Jessica remembers well a comment her Grandmama made to her one time when Jessica was still very young. She said, “I look in the mirror and I don’t recognize the old woman I see.” At the time she did not get it, but she has come to understand it. She now believes that there is a balance to aging – not “fake”, but gracefully. At Shine, we recognize that age is a gift that not everyone is granted, and we appreciate it, but we also want to help those who want to age a little more slowly, achieve it!
